After a dramatic and thrilling Speed of Light Giro Competition, it's a brief period of relative reprieve on Thursday...or is it? The WorldTour is up for grabs, and the first themed ride is Fat Bike Night. June 12 is worth double points for those folks on a fat bike, which could yield a big chunk of points for those looking to claim the WorldTour title at year's end. The Speed of Light, as always, leaves the shop at 6.30pm on Thursday, or 6.45pm from the Vasa 25km parking lot.
Ec is also going to head out to the Bike Benzie Grand Fondo June 14. The ride is offering a timed event for the first time, and we're going all out to ride 100 miles just about as fast as possible. It's a busy weekend, with West Branch's Road Race and Criterium taking place the 14th and 15th, respectively.
Around the shop, we've welcomed two more great humans. Jake and Dan both started this past Monday, and they've already been tried by the fire of a busy June weekend. Jake will be manning the sales department, and Dan is Rouge Leader for the Service Department alongside Natron. Stop by whenever you get a chance, meet the guys, and find out what makes them tick. Maybe tug a little on their heart strings.
This week's Strava Segment Challenge is the Hill on Iceman Course Climb. An underrated and often decisive ascent on the Speed of Light course, it's .6 miles long at an average gradient of 3.1%, and brings riders up 127 feet. It has two major characteristics, the first of which brings riders to a virtual halt at its base. The foot of the climb has a speed-sucking sand pit, and riders have to select between two narrow firm patches to the right or left. The very top of the climb, after the legs are burning and the gaps are starting to open up, hits 18% for about fifteen feet right at the crown of the hill. The fastest time over the top gets an Ec t-shirt!
