We wanted to take just a second to thank all of our friends for another great year at Einstein Cycles. Traverse City has a cycling community that has grown more inclusive, supportive and connected every year, and we hope to play a part of promoting cycling in every form in the years to come.
2016 saw some big changes, including Ec becoming the home of Bearclaw Bicycle Co., a bike brand born in the woods and trails of Northern Michigan. The Balthazar made its production debut in January, and we're down to just a handful of frames out of our first 100 builds. On the BBCo. front, we are eagerly awaiting the release of the titanium road bike you may have seen bouncing around the shop, with two prototypes now with over 1,000 miles of testing in just the past few weeks.
Another big change took place this May, with Ec Coffee Bar transitioning into Breakaway Cafe. We are so happy our friends Breanne and Craig Fortuna moved in next door, slinging delicious food and the freshest coffee possible. Together, Ec and Bc have become a place where rides, vacations and adventures begin and end, and we like to think of it as a way to step away from everyday life and indulge in good food, dreams bikes and nice people whenever you feel like it.
We also welcomed Ben Boyce to the shop, with his wife Betsy and two kids, Reuben and the very fresh Turkey Melt (also known as Josie). Ben has joined Dan in forming the most knowledgable, friendly and hard-working mechanic tandems around, and we are incredibly lucky to have them. Dan has stepped up his responsibilities to not only being the best wrench around; he's built every single set of BBCo. ricochet wheels out in the world, over 150 sets of wheels in just over a year.
Later in the fall, long-time Ec nerd/bike fitter and great friend Jason Whittaker moved to Tucson, becoming the last of the O.G. (original gangster) to move on. We definitely miss him around the shop and around town, but we're sure he'll visit soon.
For 2017, we're excited for an awful lot of things. We are back with our racing team for yet another season, paired with Short's Brewing, Air Way Automation, Breakaway Cafe, Solution Studio, Bearclaw Bicycle Co., and Bayview Dental. We are continuing with yet another season of Speed of Light, which will begin the Thursday after Mud, Sweat and Beers. Before that, we have a full calendar of fat bike rides and races, including the Short’s Brewing Fat Bike Series. We take a lot of pride in being the shop that puts on events, events that are always open to everyone.
Thank you for being involved, for joining us out on the roads and trails, and for contributing to a community of happy, active people that want a lifestyle that is sustainable, enjoyable, and fruitful. We can’t wait to see what 2017 has in store, and we can’t wait to spend another year with you, just riding along.
