It may feel like a lifetime away, but here's something to circle on your calendar. In bold.
The first Speed of Light in 2015 will be May 7, and will also serve as Stage One of the Giro Competition. The first Thursday after Mud, Sweat and Beers is back as the official start date, and we are wasting no time in getting right to the good stuff. 2014 Giro winner Ty Schmidt is the favorite, looking to add a fifth Grand Tour to his palmares.
While individual stages have yet to be decided, the Giro Competition will begin May 7 and conclude after four stages on May 28. June will return as four weeks of themed events, including Fat Bike Week, SingleSpeed Week, Women's Week and Junior's Week, with each theme worth double points for those who participate.
The Tour Competition will begin two days before the one in France, kicking off on Thursday, July 2 and running until July 23. Race officials have not confirmed stages yet, but the rumor mills are buzzing with talk of a return of the double-lap finale of 2014. Ryan Kennedy survived a mechanical, an incredible chase and some stiff competition to win his first title at the Tour, and this will be circled on his calendar.
The Eric Pollard Memorial Race will come a week after the Tour finale, on August 6, with the CXSOL Classic on August 13. From there, it's 4 straight weeks of the Vuelta Competition leading up to the Speed of Light World Championships on September 24. Ty Schmidt collected the Vuelta title last year, and is always a favorite in the four-week races. He'll look to take the rainbow stripes off 2014 World Champion Jorden Wakeley in the final night of SOL of the season.
Stay tuned for more Speed of Light news in April!
