While we're certainly looking forward to blankets of snow, there's a lot of great weather to make the most of.
It's not easy to forget that, at this point last year, we'd had over three feet of snow for a month already. The final Cross the Bay CX race was not only cancelled due to the copious amount of snow, but was replaced by a fat bike race. To sit in the final days of December with hardly a frozen mud puddle to ride over, our die-hard fat bikers are feeling a touch glum as we look toward a New Year's Day Ride on some pathetic crust snow that is really for looks only.
But, you can always make the most of it. The roads have been largely dry, a bit of a relief from the mud of the trails. It's a rare year to be able to ride Leelanau County on Christmas Eve and do it in knickers and a decent coat. What better way to see the lingering Christmas lights than at a leisurely pace along Bluff Road?
The cold weather, the snow, and all the fun in the woods is coming, have no fear. Until then, don't write off a spin on asphalt....it could be your last one until April!
