We are very excited for warm weather, sunny skies and great new things in the Ec Coffee Bar.
Perhaps the sweetest little thing on the docket is the addition of pastries from our friends at 9 Bean Rows! As a part of our mission to support local businesses, we are adding 9 Bean croissant and baked goods to our offerings of Higher Grounds Trading Co. coffee and Light of Day Teas!
While you're enjoying a brew and biscuit, you'll have some world-class cycling to enjoy on the TV. This Saturday, May 9, the 98th edition of the Giro d'Italia gets underway in San Remo. We'll be showing every stage live, as well as replays throughout the day. Last year's winner, Nairo Quintana, is skipping the race to focus on the Tour de France, leaving the door wide open for former winner Alberto Contador to lay the foundations for his well publicized attempt at the Giro-Tour double.
Contador is one of just three former winners taking the start, with Damiano Cuenego and 2012 winner Ryder Hesjedal the other champions. "El Pistolero" won't have it all his own way, with Team Sky sending Ritchie Porte armed with a strong team. Astana fields a podium finisher from last year in Fabio Aru, while the runner-up from 2014, Rigoberto Uran, is back and on good form after a solid performance at the Tour of Romandie.
But there's an awful lot of action a bit closer to home. The Amgen Tour of California starts on Sunday, with some of the biggest stars of cycling making the trip west to race in the mountains and valleys of beautiful California. It's a wide open GC race, although some of the hottest action comes in the sprints. Peter Sagan loves the ToC, and usually celebrates his week in Cali with multiple stage wins. This year, he'll be against the sprint train of Ettix-QuickStep and Mark Cavendish, and no one expects for Sagan to have it all his way in 2015.
The race features it's annual trip up the infamous Mt. Baldy, a special place for the shop. It's where owner Jason Lowetz once found his legs as a cyclist, though perhaps not as a climber. Baldy and many of the roads of that particular stage are a great look at the riding that made Jason, and Einstein Cycles, into the person and place we've become!
May is also the start of our Speed of Light Giro Competition on May 7! Speed of Light is a pretty big deal, and everyone is invited to get out there, test the legs and meet all the dirty crushers from TC and beyond. The ride leaves Ec at 6.30pm every Thursday.
