The snow might still be a couple of months off, but excitement is already growing at the recent announcement of Fat Bike Fridays. The new offering will allow fat bikes to enjoy a day on the groomed VASA Trails each Friday, a welcome change from the complete (unofficial) ban last season.
The change comes as a result from a lot of support and involvement from fat bike lovers from all over Northern Michigan. There have been numerous meetings about how to best introduce fat bikes onto the VASA. The final decision seems to be that the Fat Bike Friday offering will serve as a field test, with the results of the experiment going a long way to decide fat bikes' place on the VASA in the future.
It hasn't been easy. Due to the novelty of the bikes and some hesitation on the part of skiers, it took a lot of work to even get a single day on the trails. In spite of fat bikers' willingness to pay for a full and equal grooming badge, resistance to the idea of total inclusiveness means the TART will offer a fat bike badge for $25 per season, opposed to $100 for a pass that allows skiers to ski all of the time, all season long.
We're excited to show that fat bikes cause even less damage to groomed trails than skiers in good conditions. To get more people out on the trail and riding responsibly, we're offering to buy your fat bike grooming badge when you buy a fat bike! It's a $25 token of our commitment to fat biking responsibly, having fun, and enjoying equal treatment on the VASA Trails.
Stop by the shop and check out the fleet of 2014 Salsa, Surly, Fat Back, & Kona fat bikes, which are rolling in every day.
See you on the trails!
