We've got a great weekend planned to jump start your autumnal riding!
Things get started, and also come to an end, with the 2015 Speed of Light World Championship on Thursday, September 17. Leave from Ec at 6:15 or the Bunker Hill Parking Lot for the finale SOL of the year, and the battle for the rainbow jersey. Past winners include Jorden Wakeley and Ryan Kennedy...who will add their name to the pantheon of legendary seekers of the light?
The fun rolls on just 24 hours later with the second edition of Crop Circle Cross presented by Tri Again Fitness! Our friends have invited everyone out to Tri Again HQ for two cyclocross races. It's all free, it's all fun, and it's for the entire family! Bring the kids and a dish to pass for a ride that is exactly what 'cross is about.
The UFO Race starts at 6.30 for 30 minutes of racing, plus one lap. The UFO race is open to beginners and sport riders, on any bike and of any skill level. To make it less intimidating, there won't be any barriers on course, so just get out there and give it a rip!
The A-Lien Race starts immediately after for Expert and Elite riders, or anyone who wants to ride for 45 minutes instead of 30. Any bike is welcome, but cyclocross bikes are encouraged. The A-Lien race will go the opposite direction, taking on some steep rollers and a technical descent on the backside of the course that should demand a complete rider to make the pace.
Plan on great food, smores, and the world's best company celebrating bikes in Northern Michigan! You can find Tri Again HQ at 2475 E Long Lake Rd, Traverse City, Michigan 49685.
The Belgian feel returns Sunday at the Ec Coffee Bar for There Will Be Blood 50/50. The gravel roads beckon south and east of Traverse City, and you'll have to distances to choose from. The world (in)famous There Will Be Blood route stays unchanged for the 50km route, with 32 miles of fast gravel and some pavement to relieve the legs. The 50 mile route, however, tacks on an extra 18 miles of dirt, including taking riders over the Carrefour de Whittaker in reverse.
Both routes finish at the top of Bunker Hill before a relaxing spin back to the Ec Coffee Bar. Check out $1 Drip, plus waffles, and we'll have coverage of the first day of the World Championships playing live on the big screen. We will take a moment to honor the new SOL World Champion and WorldTour winner as well.
