We've talked to some of our friends, our racers and all of our staff to find out what makes the top of the list for your cyclist this holiday season. From parts and repairs to new accessories and gadgets, there are needs and wants abound. To make it easy, we've selected some of the top requested items. Now, it's just up to you to get them under the tree.
Lezyne Super Drive XL
We’ve put in enough miles at night to come up with a sort of checklist of what a good light needs to do: it needs to recharge conveniently, it needs to be bright and last a long time, and it needs to mount where we want it. The Super Drive checks all the right boxes, with a bonus of looking sleek. The Super Drive comes with multiple mounts, an extra battery, and does especially well in the cold of Northern Michigan.
Timbuk2 Tool Shed
Life is full of flat tires, or at least it seems to be one too many. You have to have a flat kit, so you might as well have the best. Timbuk2’s Tool Shed makes the dreaded flat repair a bit less of a heartbreaker by making it way easier to get to your stuff. Unbuckle the strap and your tubes, CO2, levers, multi-tool, everything is ready to go without having to remove it all. It also looks pretty great, too. Hopefully it’s more decoration than function, but when that flat happens, you’ll be able to reduce your curse count by at least a few.
Elite Ciussi Bottle Cage
A classic. Bottle cages can be an after thought, but that usually results in a pile of water bottles at the bottom of a rough hill. The Ciussi has been around for a long while, with periods of reinvention keeping it updated, lighter, but still visually striking. It’s the cage of choice for riders everywhere from the Paris-Roubaix and Tour of Flanders to local events like the Arcadia Grit and Gravel and Iceman Cometh.
Crank Bros Candy 2
Fat bike, mountain bike, cyclocross bike...one pedal to pop up everywhere. No pedal clears mud or snow like the Candy, and the platform makes it easier to pedal before you clip in. It’s been tried and tested pedals for all conditions, and it’s slowly found its way onto an awful lot of bikes the past year or so. Aluminum body and chromoly spindle, tough construction and totally rebuildable, it’s as close to bombproof as anything in the bike world.
45North Wolvhammer Boots
The undisputed winter boot. If you don’t want your feet to get cold, there’s no other boot that makes the cut. Two very cold winters have proven it to be the best all arounder, and it’s comfortable and warm enough to wear shoveling, snow shoeing, or anything else you’re up for.
Record your adventures, your races, your rides. Shinola has done so much to write the next chapter of Detroit’s comeback, and the story just keeps getting better. Beautiful bicycles, world-class timepieces and leather goods, and now elegant journals and notebooks make having a piece of the story easy. We use our notebooks for work notes, orders and recording big stuff in Ec history.
Revelate Tangle Frame Bag
Bring it with you. The Summer of Snack Sack was an eye-opener. How pleasant a thing, to have what you want at hand, no matter how far you go. The Tangle gets plenty of use year-round. Winter means extra gloves, battery packs for your lights, spare tubes, hand warmers and perhaps a flask. You’ll find a bag on nearly every bike for our big adventure rides like the New Year’s Day Ride or Bellaire 80.
Lezyne Alloy Digital Drive Floor Pump
Precision is key. From mountain, fat, cyclocross and even road, having your tire pressure dialed can make all the difference. Lezyne’s floor pumps are aesthetically pleasing, last forever and work quickly and easily. The digital drive is accurate to lower PSIs that regular floor pumps, making it the one floor pump you need, no matter the bike.
Salsa Mukluk 3
You need it. You want it. You gotta have it. Perhaps no bike has made a big a leap as the Mukluk, but it still retains the all-around usefulness that makes it one of the most popular fat bikes in the world. Big upgrades from last year mean the 3 comes stock with Holy Rolling Darryls, a ten speed SRAM drivetrain, hydraulic brakes and some sweet new colors. Bang for your buck, it's a pretty resounding thunder clap!
Ec Wool Jersey
Classic style, incredible function and a big bold statement about who you are and what you care about. These wool jerseys are a throwback to the golden days of European cycling, hardly different from those worn by the likes of Anquetil, Mercks, or Garin. Warm yet breathable, comfortable but stylish, don't just wear this off the bike. We've put in some big training rides in the wool jersey, and it's the fat bike choice for Natron, even in frigid conditions.
